Classification

- Umeh rejects functional classification ("general practitioners" etc. per Basden/Onwuejeogwu). The true division is by the possessing Agwu:
- Nne Agwu Dibia — possessed by the Mother Agwu: the holistic, archetypal Dibia (rare); called Nwa Anwu (Child of the Light). Initiation is shortest — bulk of rituals in two days plus a wilderness retreat.
- Ebo Agwu Dibia — lineage-Agwu Dibias, empowered only for their allotted line(s): Agwu Dibia (general/curative), Agwu Mmili (water), or Abia Nkita (the Round Basket of knowledge/wisdom). Nnobi's seven Ebo Agwu are named; its Nne Agwu is Agwu Okponku.

- Famous Dibia communities: the Ifite/Ishite peoples everywhere (the original Dibia people), Nnobi (given the Akpa Agwu via Idemmili), Nando (Ndi Oje na-Mmuo — those who travel to the Spirit world), Olo (annual Ogwu Olo day; their own Isi Abia claim, via the taproot of herbs), Oghe, Awha, Abia (Udi), Item, Umudiko of Opi, Akwashi Ohodo ("let the doubter come and see").

- Historical aside: itinerant Dibia husbands left Nnobi women running local affairs — an early emancipation Umeh links to the momentum behind the Aba Women's Riot against colonial taxation.
