Initiation — Ilu Agwu
- Ilu Agwu (strictly the second stage; loosely the whole admission). Core sequence:
1. Igu iwu Chukwu/Agwu na Nso Ana — recitation of God's/Agwu's laws and the taboos of the Earth deity; keep them and nothing is impossible except Onatalu Chi.
2. Iho Oshi/Ohi — communal "lifting off" of the sacred Oshi instrument by all children of Agwu present, with incantation and swing — a protective spirit-ritual.
3. Iho Aju — stamping a cooling spiritual potion on forehead, chest, feet, back (tracing a pyramid-on-base pattern), then sprinkling all present.
4. Presentation of offerings (uyom) to the invisible Umu Anwu; on acceptance —
5. Inye Dibia Ofo and Ikonye Dibia Akpa Agwu — conferral of the Dibia's Ofo and the sacred bag.
6. Ima/Iba Nzu — the left half of the body rubbed in white chalk; then solitary wilderness communion for 12 or 28 days; triumphant re-entry as accredited Dibia.
- The rite establishes the initiate's Okwu Agwu (sacred grove/altar) — Ogilisi and companion plants set in alignment with Anyanwu (the Sun, Eye of the God of Light), moon, and stars; a strong Okwu Agwu attracts further trees and spiritual essentials on its own. Faculties opened: potent mouth, potent hands untied, anya ife uzo (third eye), nti ife uzo (third ear), omen-reading, plus untranslated feats (ofufe, ekili, ife igbu n'inyoga...).
- The pestle-and-mortar occult principle Odu ghalu ikwe o sua n'ana — "let the pestle spare the mortar and pound the ground" — channels initiatory spirit-poundings safely to earth; reused later in protective ogwu.
- Ebo Agwu initiations are longer: three full staged rites — Ilu Agwu, Ichi Agwu, Ibu Afa.
