Uwa Mbu — the First World

- Before this earth, all beings — Chukwu, humans, animals, spirits — lived together in Uwa Mbu (the First World): a monolithic plane of true knowledge, perfect happiness, wisdom, wealth, mercy, and perpetual Divine Light and music.

- Only one building existed: Obi Chukwu, God's four-sided sacred house. Entry was forbidden to all, even His wife Komosu.

- The other creatures persuaded Komosu to peep inside. A flaming golden tongue of creation-fire escaped and shattered the monolithic world — Uwa walu awa ("the first world broke into pieces").

- Komosu died in the blast — Odachi ka Odachi, "the greatest of tragedies." To this day a place of death is called ebe odachi dalu (where odachi fell). The explosion caused the original forcible separation of material body, soul, and spirit; the fragments became the planets, stars, and satellites (all spherical).

- Chukwu applied Odaghini Okwalu — mystical "brakes"/magnetic balances that keep the heavenly bodies from crashing into each other or falling into Ikelekwum Mmuo (the bottomless spiritual abyss).

- Analogy used by the ancients: the ukpaka (oil-bean pod) that explodes in intense heat, flinging its seeds far into the bush.

- Chukwu's first purification of the death-polluted earth was done with His own tears (anya mmili), which formed the salty oceans (Oshimili/Orimili Nnu). Since then the land (Ana/Ala/Ani) is sacred, and every abomination must be cleansed to restore its sacredness. Dibias still use water + salt (the components of tears) to remove pollution and hatred. - In one telling, the earth itself is the ogodo (cloth/corpse) of Komosu, cleansed by God's tears. [ch.6, p.134]
