Practices & Ritual ItemsTier 2

Practices

- Igo Ofo / Igo Mmuo — communion with the spirit realm; wash legs, face, mouth, hands (or whole body) first [T2]; Igo Ofo Ututu — the morning prayer (see the T2 corpus of prayer-lines, §13.3).

- Ikpu Alu — "driving out abomination": the Nri specialists' purification of grave pollutions [T1+T2]. Animal/plant abominations (he-goat mounting a sheep; a cock crowing at odd hours; the palm tree from which a tapper fell; the breadfruit tree that killed) are purged by prescribed killing/felling — each purge describing an arc [T1, p.20].

- Ili Alo / Nkwu Alo [T2] — burial of umbilical cord + placenta at a germinating tree = the child's tree of life, fruiting in proportion to the child's future achievements; site of the Obi Umuaka teenage rite of reconnection to Ala, ancestors, community.

- Igbu Ichi — face scarification: heroism gateway [T1]; mystical death-conquest [T2] (§3.3). Restricted in some towns to noblemen's first sons.

- Echichi title system [T2]: Igbu Ichi, Ichi Ozo, Ichi Ekpe, Ichi Lolo, Ichi Iyom, Ichi Eze... — lodges cultivating advanced techniques; [T1] Umeh's own titles: Ozo Agwu, Ozo Ugo, Ozo Ogbuefi; Ozo Dunu (Duru) — the last title, taken only when spiritually pushed.

- Ita/Ime Agwu, Ita Atu — see §5.5. Inwa — masquerade spiritual testing. Ise Okpa N'onu — see §6.2.

- Spiritual hygiene [T2 — the framing essay]: pollution (njo/alu/uchu) and purification as the twin axes of Odinani; nso (sacred prohibition) violations pollute individual and community; daily washing + periodic cleansing rituals; hygiene of body and spirit "account for one another."

- Ume Ndu [T2 — Step 7] — "breath of life" practices for re-syncing Chi na Eke: exercise/flow states, dance (igba egwu), instruments, singing, theater (comedy burns negativity; drama teaches by suspension of disbelief), prayer (ekpere) as talking to spirit vs igo chi (meditation) as listening, moving meditation, writing. [T1's Vol. 2 ch.19 "Iku Ume Ndu" = healing by breath — the traditional root.]

- The 13 Steps [T2 — Omenka's program, for reference]: 1 Ncheta (remembrance) · 2 Chi na Eke · 3 Ikenga · 4 Nro (dreams) · 5 Akaraka (destiny) · 6 Ako bu Ije (wisdom/intuition) · 7 Ume Ndu (breath) · 8 Aku na Uba (abundance: count blessings → transform → give) · 9 (not in file) · 10 Ogwu (change agents) · 11–12 (not in file) · 13 Ifunanya (love — Madu bu chi ibe ya).
