Feats of the Dibia

Igbo numerology supplies the "theoretical framework" for classic Dibia feats:

- Ibi abuo/ibi iboo — bilocation (via union with the Agu Mu double)

- Ife efe — flying; ise ese — levitation/floating; ide nde — melting through matter or into thin air; ishi eshishi and igho — transformation into animal/bird/other forms

- Ekili — travel as a rod of pure white light: the Dibia lights a stick at both ends (onoko isi naabo), counts stars against sands from one to nine (Kpakpando ofu, aja di n'ana ofu...), commands Onunu m bulu binie! and blasts off at supersonic, smokeless, silent speed. Eyewitness accounts: Ugwumba of Umuoji (via Prof. Clement Okafor's father); Umeh's own father flying home to Nnobi from Onitsha at 3 a.m. (1950s). Some families still forbid burning wood at both ends because of Ekili.

- Ikwueli — teleportation. Oje na Mmuo — bodily travel to the Spirit world (Chief Echezona of Ogidi's gunpowder-line sessions described; taboo on the word onwu during them; "Omebigo" = the person is dead).

- Obu nnunu — the flight principle (four opposed pulls resolving at 400/nnu) = the Egyptian Bennu bird.

- Ika ahu — full immunization: the client's body ritually killed, minced into a vessel at the Okwu Agwu, and restored whole at a gunshot (Imezi Oghe Dibia's practice; his own account: "one who does not comprehend the feat he performs" — Onye ama ife o na-alu).

- The mystical counting: Dibia counts mbo, mbo, nto, nno, nse, nsii, nsaa (2,2,3,4,5,6,7) — never pronouncing "one" (sacred to God) and never exceeding nine — before breathing the Breath of the Spirit into ogwu; Ekili is the great exception where One is counted.
